Trump to name Mattis as Defense Secretary
US President-elect Donald Trump announced on Thursday that he will nominate retired Marine Corps General James Mattis as Defense Secretary.

Mattis, who is a former commander of the US Central Command, led the Marine expedition in Afghanistan. He also led fierce fighting in Fallujah during the Iraq War. He is known by the nickname "Mad Dog".

In 2005, Mattis was criticized for saying it's a lot of fun to shoot some people, whom he described as bad men, in Afghanistan.

Trump met with Mattis on November 19th. After the meeting, he praised the retired general on Twitter as "a true general's general."
