Donald Trump has a penchant for the Conways.
George Conway, a longtime corporate New York lawyer and the husband of Kellyanne Conway, is on a shortlist of candidates considered by Donald Trump to become the next U.S. solicitor general, two transition team sources confirmed Friday.
The potential pick was first reported by Bloomberg News
If confirmed, Conway — who is of Filipino descent — would become the first Asian-American to ever hold the high-ranking judicial post.
Conway did not return a request for comment, but a transition source said he would accept the position should Trump tap him for it.
Conway is currently a partner at Manhattan-based corporate law firm Wachtell, Lipton, Rosen & Katz, where he has worked for nearly three decades, specializing in securities, contract and antitrust litigation, according to the firm's website. Conway was never directly involved in Trump's campaign, which was managed by his wife, who was recently tapped as the President-elect's senior counselor.
As solicitor general, Conway would argue on the federal government's behalf in Supreme Court cases. His career feats include representing high-profile clients such as NFL players and tobacco maker Philip Morris.
Conway also had a small part in the 1998 impeachment of President Bill Clinton. He wrote the Supreme Court brief for Paula Jones, who accused the former President of sexual harassment. The brief paved the way for Clinton's impeachment on charges of perjury and obstruction of justice.
