The US President-elect has elected his son in law Jared Kushner to hold a top post in White House. Mr Kushner, a New York's real estate businessman has been appointed to hold a position concerning Trump's domestic and foreign policies.
The appointment of Kushner has raised the issues of conflict of interest and nepotism, and the question raised, does Mr President-elect infringe the law?
What does the Anti-nepotism law state?
"A public official may not appoint, employ, promote, advance, or advocate for appointment, employment, promotion, or advancement, in or to a civilian position in the agency in which he is serving or over which he exercises jurisdiction or control any individual who is a relative of the public official. An individual may not be appointed, employed, promoted, or advanced in or to a civilian position in an agency if such appointment, employment, promotion, or advancement has been advocated by a public official, serving in or exercising jurisdiction or control over the agency, who is a relative of the individual."
Kushner's lawyer has claimed that the law by itself is clear, because it applies to non White House posts, hence the appointment has based on legal perspective. The political analyst Bill Schneider said "not very clear" if the law applies to Kushner appointment " The law itself is very clear , it say that you can not appoint a relative to a federal agency that you head. But the White House is not a federal agency under the law"
Mr Kushner served as campaign advisor to Trump and he has remained to be one of the influential figures in the transition team.
