A 28 years old man named Petro Mapanga has passed away on Wednesday at Manase a township of commercial city of Blantyre after excessively drinking a beer without taking a meal.
Blantyre Police assistant spokesperson Sergeant Andrew Mayawo said the man was later found under a tree lying on the ground.
“His brother came to report that the man was missing but later some people found him under a tree lying on the ground and he was taken to the hospital where he was pronounced died,” said Mayawo.
He added that Police suspect that the man has died due to too much alcohol consumption without eating as postmortem from Queen Elizabeth Central Hospital (QECH) is yet to establish the cause of death.
Mayawo has since advised residents in the city to resist from drinking beer before taking a meal.

The excessive drinking without taking enough meal has been a cultural behavior to most people hence get affected.Once alcohol is in the bloodstream, it’s quickly distributed throughout the entire body, causing the blood vessels to widen and result in temporary feelings of warmth, temporary decrease in pulse rate, as well as blood pressure. It travels through the stomach, kidneys, lungs, liver, and the brain.

“Once the alcohol hits the brain, it immediately starts affecting the brain’s ability to control behavior and bodily functions,” Total DUI reported. It doesn't always take long for this to happen either; about 20 percent of the alcohol a person drinks passes through the stomach and reaches the brain within a minute.
