Two men have been killed and at least eight other people have been wounded in shootings since early Tuesday afternoon on the West and South sides, according to police.
Just before 4:30 p.m., a man suffered multiple gunshot wounds in an attack in the 1300 block of South Komensky Avenue in the Lawndale neighborhood, according to a police media notification. The man was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital in critical condition and was later pronounced dead, according to police. Police were not immediately releasing any information about the circumstances of the shooting.
An earlier fatal shooting occurred around noon when a gunmen fired at a man and a woman in the 1000 block of North Harding Avenue in the Humboldt Park neighborhood on the West Side, according to Chicago police.
The man was hit in the chest and was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital, where he was pronounced dead. The 21-year-old woman was shot in the leg and was taken in good condition to Norwegian Hospital, police said.
In other shootings:
- Just after 9:20 p.m., a 48-year-old man was seriously injured in an East Garfield Park shooting. He was in the 300 block of North Saint Louis Avenue when he was shot in the arm and chest and taken to Mount Sinai Hospital in serious condition. Police initially said he was taken to a different hospital; that information was later corrected.
- A man was shot just before 7 p.m. in the 2800 block of West Wilcox Avenue in the East Garfield Park neighborhood, according to a police media notification. The man suffered at least one gunshot wound to the back and was taken to Stroger Hospital, where his condition was stabilized. The man was in a vehicle when someone in a dark-colored vehicle fired shots, hitting him, police said.
- About 6:50 p.m., a 27-year-old man suffered gunshot wounds to the hip and back in the 5700 block of West Augusta Boulevard in the Austin neighborhood, according to a police media notification. The man was taken to West Suburban Medical Center, where his condition was stabilized.
- In the Back of the Yards neighborhood, an 18-year-old man was shot in the 4500 block of South Marshfield Avenue about 6:10 p.m. The man suffered a gunshot wound to the leg and was taken to the University of Illinois at Chicago Medical Center, where his condition was stabilized, police said. The man told police he had left a home when he heard shots, then went back inside when he felt pain in his leg. No one was in custody.
- A 22-year-old man was shot in the 8700 block of South Racine Avenue in the Gresham neighborhood about 4:55 p.m. Officers later took two men into custody near 95th Street and Vincennes Avenue following a crash that may have been related to the shooting, police said.
- Around 2:05 p.m., a 35-year-old man was standing in the 1100 block of South Francisco Avenue in Lawndale when a white sedan approached and someone inside fired shots, police said. The man was hit in the chest and was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital, where he was stabilized. No one was in custody.
- Around 3 p.m., a 33-year-old man was shot in the chest in the 3000 block of West Marquette Avenue in Marquette Park, police said. He was taken in serious condition to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn, police said. The man was in a home when the shooting happened, according to police, who did not release other details.
